about

Two versions, one Armenian and the other Turkish, of the same melody tell a universal tale, that of an impossible love. The first, "Vard Siresti", is the story of a girl from the mountain: "I loved a rose, but she covered herself with thorns and chose another …. May your mother die". In the Turkish version, the family of the blond fiancée, "Sari Gelin", opposes the marriage and concludes "may the grandmother die". There are Iranian, Azerbaijani and Kurdish versions of this song, provoking discussions on the exact origin of one of the most beautiful songs from the region.
