about

"The dance of the Hemshin » in 9/8 is danced in a circle. Hemshin refers to an Armenian people in the north-east of Turkey that speaks its own dialect. Although the Muslim Hemshin were spared during the 1915 deportation, a significant number of Christian Hemshin fled to Russia via the Caucasus and the Black Sea, creating substantial Hemshin communities in Moscow and Ukrainian port towns.
